Center for Public Integrity
About
The Center for Public Integrity is often called a “watchdog in the corridors of power.” We are proud of that. While investigative journalism in newspapers, TV and radio is declining across the country — and corporate influence is rising in Washington — the Center aggressively digs into issues to make government more transparent and accountable.
For 20 years, the Center has been a guardian of the public interest. We do the hard-hitting investigative journalism that brings real and lasting change. As a non-partisan and independent watchdog, we bring to life the stories that nobody else can do.
In our recent “Campus Assault” series, the Center chronicled how an estimated one in five women attending U.S. colleges will be the victim of a rape or an attempted rape by the time she graduates. Preparing the series took more than a year to research Education Department assault data; to interview young victims, their alleged attackers, and government officials; and to analyze what reforms could protect students. The impact? Our series reached an audience of more than 22 million through National Public Radio, dozens of major media organizations, and more than 40 campus newspapers. We also provided a tool kit to help other journalists take a closer look at campus sexual assault in their own communities.
The Center focuses its work in the areas of money and politics; environment and energy; health care; business and finance; and national security.
• We push out our work to journalists, policymakers, scholars and citizens using a combination of electronic, digital, print and broadcast media.
• We organize and support investigative journalists around the world with our International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
• We are independent of corporate and government sponsorship, and rely on your support of our mission.
The Center's work has been honored by the Society of Environmental Journalists, the Association of Health Care Journalists, the Overseas Press Club of America, the Society of Professional Journalists, Columbia Journalism School, and Investigative Reporters and Editors. And we've recently been involved in collaborations with National Public Radio, the BBC, the Huffington Post Investigative Fund, Atlantic Monthly, Kaiser Health News, POLITICO and the Washington Post.
